DURBAN – An elderly couple and their helper were at their place of residence at Tomworthington Drive in Dundee when two unknown males entered.
They forced everyone to lie down and demanded cash. They took cash that was at the premises and stabbed an 84-year-old woman. She sustained multiple stab wounds and was declared dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as Sukdey Ramauthar. Dundee police were summoned to the scene and they swiftly responded.
An investigation was conducted and a 35-year-old suspect was traced and nabbed in the vicinity of the crime scene at Peacevale area. He was found in possession of a knife suspected to be used as well as blood that was visible on his clothes. Another 45-year-old man was taken in for questioning. The 35-year-old suspect will appear before the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 October 2020 on charges of murder and house robbery.
The killing of defenceless women and elderly people will not be tolerated in our province. We will make sure that all those involved in gender based violence are brought to book. I am glad the suspect was nabbed immediately so that he will face the music for his evil deeds,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
