Team work between SAPS Mount Road Crime Prevention and PE Flying Squad members resulted in the immediate arrest of four suspects as well as the recovery of a stolen firearm and a suspected stolen cellphone.

It is alleged that on Friday at about 16:45, Mount Road Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling when they were flagged down by an unknown person at the corners of Fettes and Prince Alfred Roads in Sydenham. The person alleged that  he was robbed by 5 males in a white vehicle. The complainant then pointed out the suspects’ vehicle. Immediately , Mount Road members pursued after the fleeing vehicle .

PE Flying Squad responded to the call for back-up. They  spotted the vehicle at the corners of Commercial and Kempston Roads and hotly pursued the  white Tata Indigo.  The suspects lost control of the vehicle  and drove onto the pavement in Siya Kholati Road.  Four males fled from the vehicle but were apprehended by the Flying Squad members.

A mobicell cellphone, firearm and ammunition were recovered. The firearm was reported stolen in Thornhill in December 2017. The four males aged between the ages of 18 and 20 were detained on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, reckless and negligent driving and  possession of suspected stolen property. The vehicle was also confiscated for further investigation.

They are expected to appear in the New Brighton magistrates’ court on Monday.

The person of being robbed of his cellphone  has not yet  opened a case. When police went back to look for him, he was gone. An appeal is made to the person to contact SAPS New Brighton on 041 394 7305  or SAPS Mount Road on 041 394 6316.
