A 30-year-old man has been arrested following the shooting and killing of his 23-year-old wife at Mbeki locality in Flagstaff on the 06 April 2020 at about 21:00. It is alleged that the couple had a quarrel and the wife fled for her life to her husband’s friend where he went to fetch her in pretence to make peace. It is further alleged that whilst the couple was on their way back to their rented room gunshots were heard and when a friend went to investigate he found the body of the wife lying in a pool of blood and the husband fled the scene.
After an intensive investigation by Flagstaff Detectives, the husband was arrested at Unity Park in Lusikisiki today at about 13:00. The firearm which was allegedly used as a murder weapon was found from another 35-year-old man who was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition on 07 April 2020 and was granted bail of R1000. The suspect will be caused to appear before Flagstaff Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 23 April 2020 facing a charge of murder.
“Gender Based Violence and femicide is and will remain not tolerated by us. It is the responsibility of us all to protect women and children. We will continue to put to book all the perpetrators of crimes against women and children.” Said the District Commissioner Major General David Kanuka.
