EASTERN CAPE – Maclear-Relentless efforts by the members of the South African Police Service to fight cross border stock theft were rewarded after a combined operation led to a successful arrest of a 29-year-old male suspect at Maclear.
On Wednesday 04 November 2020, members acted on new information on the whereabouts of the most wanted suspects during a multi-disciplinary operation called “Operation Sikhathele”.
The suspect has been wanted by police for a number of unsolved stock theft cases committed within the province. He is linked to different cases of stock theft that were committed around the areas of Qumbu, Tsolo, Maclear and Mt Frere. More than five warrants of arrest had been issued in his name.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
The acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Thembisile Patekile applauded the units involved in apprehending the suspect.
“This arrest will have a positive impact on different stock theft cases and across the border,” he said.
