KIMBERLEY- A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment on four counts of rape by the Mothibistad Regional Court. On Thursday, 08 August 2019, the accused was found guilty for repeatedly raping his ex-girlfriend in the presence of her 2-year-old boy.
In the night of April 2018, the accused broke into the house of his girlfriend, assaulted and raped her. The ex-girlfriend sustained open cut wounds on her face. Subsequent to the incident the accused fled the scene, and he was on the run for three months.
The victim’s witness testimony and forensic evidence linked him with the crime. He was kept in police custody until the case was finalised.
The Northern Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Koliswa Otola applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Caren Nel for her excellent investigative work by ensuring that the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment on four counts of rape. She continued to commend the National Prosecuting Authority and Department of Justice for removing criminals from the society.
