The Richards Bay Regional Court convicted and sentenced a 36-year-old man to three terms of life imprisonment for raping his daughter on several occasions in 2014. The victim who was five-years old at the time was left with a child minder at her mother’s home in J2 Section when the accused arrived.
He removed the child from the child minder and raped her. The neighbours who heard the screams of the child went to investigate and found the accused raping the child. The neighbours managed to rescue the child from the accused. A case of rape was opened at Esikhaleni police and assigned to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.
The accused was immediately arrested and detained for the duration of the trial. Police investigations revealed that the victim had been raped on three different occasions. The accused was effectively sentenced to three terms of life imprisonment.
