Former Eskom employee, Ziphozonke Daniel Ntuli (33) has been convicted for two counts of theft by the Middelburg Regional Court on Thursday, the 18th July 2019.
The Hawks`Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit arrested Ntuli and a colleague, Busisiwe Edith Mawela (37), on the 31st January 2018, after investigations linked them to two incidents where they connived and issued authorisation tickets for copper cables valued at R1.2-million, to be removed from Eskom premises in Middelburg.
Ntuli has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for each count, and the sentence has been ordered to run concurrently, meaning he is to serve an effective 12 years in prison. Meanwhile the case against Mawela has been postponed to the 26th July 2019, for a trial date to be determined.
