FREE STATE – Makhubo Steen Themba (27) has been found guilty and sentenced on charges of rape and armed robbery by the Harrismith Regional Court on Wednesday.
The victim was reportedly raped after she was mugged near a Farm in the Harrismith District area by unknown males on 04 October 2015. Following a preliminary investigation four suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property but they were later released due to lack of evidence.
The Hawks Serious Crime Investigation resulted in the arrest of Makhubo in 2017, after he was positively linked to the crime scene by the results of the DNA tests obtained from the four initially arrested suspects.
The Court has sentenced Makhubo to Life imprisonment on the rape charge plus 15 years for house robbery.
