GAUTENG – A 35-year-old Constable attached to Pretoria Central Tactical Response Team (TRT), is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on charges of extortion, corruption and defeating the ends of Justice.
It is alleged that in December 2016, the constable allegedly demanded R1-million from a complainant stating that he had incriminating information against him. They consequently met at a restaurant in Hatfield wherein the complainant reportedly transferred R300 000 into the suspect’s bank account.
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation ensued shortly after they were alerted to the alleged crime. The Constable was served with summonses to appear in court on Friday, 06 November 2020, he has been warned to make a follow-up court appearance on Monday, 16 November 2020.
