Rape has become a huge issue in South Africa. In 2019, there were numerous cases of sexual assault including the one of Uyinene Mrwetyana. In 2020, the sexual assault of a lady named Yamkela had the South African youth speaking on social media. The lady was allegedly raped by her boyfriend’s friend while the boyfriend was out.
The lady voice recorded the whole incident. The woman is heard saying no to the man several times as he pleaded to have intercourse with her. She also told him that what he did was wrong but he still tried to force himself on her. She begged him not to do it, which ended up in her crying and screaming. However, she ended up having to negotiate with the man who sexually assaulted her until he was done. The lady had to wait for him till he was done.
Black Twitter reacted to the horrendous event between Yamkela and the man named Siyanda ‘Viper’. One tweep says, “Today I finally got to understand what a rape scene is like. It’s a short moment filled with many traumas and psychological shifts all aimed at achieving the least possible harm…I therefore know why there’s a lot of women who do not report it…” One tweep says, “I really regret listening to those VNs, my heart is shattered into pieces.” The man is reported to be appearing in court on the 11th of March.
