The former executive of SABC, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, has denied the accusations that he lied about his qualifications. He said this this as he was on the stand for the first time at the Zondo commission inquiry. He was at the commission of inquiry today (Tuesday).
He has denied the reports of him that have stated that he lied about his matric qualification, he spoke about his career. He says that he was called by Alwyn Kloppers, the SABC head of news, in 1995 to be in a permanent position while he was a freelance journalist from 1989 at the public broadcaster. “I declared from the onset that, Alwyn, I don’t have matric,” says Hlaudi Motsoeneng. He went on to say that Alwyn Kloppers told him that he doesn’t think that they need a matric qualification for him because of his contribution while he was still a freelancer.
He then added that before was permanently a member of the SABC he was taken to a broadcasting course by the public broadcasting company. “Before I joined SABC, permanently, they took me to a course to go and learn about broadcasting. Normally, SABC they don’t take a freelancer; to go and train a freelancer. It has never happened in the history of the SABC. I’m the first person to be taken,” says Hlaudi Motsoeneng. The testimony will continue.
