Instagram Plans To Hide How Many Likes You Have, Here’s Why. Instagram is starting a test run of hiding the counts of likes on people’s videos and photos.
Instagram is starting a test run of hiding the counts of likes on people’s videos and photos. The test will start running in Canada. In the trial version most Instagram users will only see a username and other’s on a certain photo or video. The person who posted the video or photo is still able to see how many likes he/ she has.
The aim of the social media platform is to make it focus on the content that people post instead of popularity. The social media platform is worried that social media platforms can also cause low self-esteem in the youth. The trial was also launched in New Zealand, Brazil, Ireland, Australia and Italy. Mia Garlick, the Facebook director of policy in Australia and New Zealand, says, “We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love.”
The Facebook director of policy went on saying that the aim is to make users feel less estimated . They also want to see if this adjustment would help people focus more on telling their stories instead of focusing on the number of likes. The social media platform says the move won’t hurt the measurement tools of businesses.
Users can still see who liked a certain persons post without seeing the numbers. Research has suggested that the number of likes that people see has the ability to increase other people’s self-esteem while decreasing other people’s self-esteem on the other hand because they don’t have the same interaction with their posts.
