Isidingo Fans Sign Petition Against SABC Cancelling The Show. SABC 3’s ‘Isidingo’ fans have been sad since it was announced that their favourite show is going to be cancelled.
SABC 3’s ‘Isidingo’ fans have been sad since it was announced that their favourite show is going to be cancelled. The rumours of the show being cancelled came to light in news reports. It was then acknowledged by the SABC that the show would be off air after the last episode which will be broadcast on the 12th of March.
The show says there are a number of things that made them cancel the show such as “poor audience ratings during the time slot, decline in revenue and poor return on investment.” The broadcasting company says, “The organisation was faced with no option but to review the performance of all programmes on the channel that are not performing, and to ensure the channel’s content is competitive and commercially viable.” Some of the fans have went on to create a petition to ask the SABC to rethink their choice of removing the show. The person who started the petition, Dean Kotze, says, “This is wrong in so many ways. Let us take a stand against the SABC and say enough is enough…the fight to save Isidingo is not over.”
One of the people that signed the petition says gave suggestions on how the show could grow its viewership and get sponsors. “If they can change the time slot from 7pm to 9pm it will get more viewers. If the SABC can just try put in the 9mp slot and change channel and take it to SABC 1. We will watch Skeem Saam at 6:30pm, and by 7pm many people watch e.tv’s Rhythm City and The River on Mzansi Magic,so it is very hard for Isisdingo,” says the ‘Isidingo’ petition fan. One fan says the SABC should leave the show alone. About 3300 out of the target of 5000 have signed the petition.
