KFC South Africa have announced the winners of their recent ‘#bringalilheat to your feed’ competition where three talented up-and-coming Social Heat Makers have proven they have what it takes to bring the heat. These lucky winners have landed themselves the opportunity to be content creator collaborators for the popular brand. In May 2021, KFC launched their limited-edition Zinger Nuggets to ‘Bring a lil heat’– wherever, whenever – and to celebrate the spicy new addition, and in true KFC style, they shared the heat, and the spotlight, with their hot-on-social young fans.
South Africa’s biggest fast food brand put a challenge to South Africa’s talented young creatives to ‘Bring a lil’ heat to their feeds’ using the new Zinger Nuggets as inspiration for engaging social content. KFC also launched the ‘Zinger Lil Heat Studio’ at The Zone in Rosebank, a temporary social studio designed to help fans create hot social video entries. Professional tips and advice were provided through special guest appearances by top content creators such as the famous YouTuber and campaign judge George Mnguni aka Okay Wasabi, well-known Tik Tokker Tiisetso Masike and food guru Luyanda Mafanya. The KFC team, in collaboration with Mnguni had a tough job selecting from the hundreds of blazing social entries that used the #Bringalilheat tag to enter across social platforms. However, the final standout content creators that showed off the hottest creative flare and the boldness that the Zinger Nuggets team were looking for are; Thando Vokwana (@Segzy Unicorn), Olebogeng Tlhong (@oceansgrey) and Talia Sardha (@tals_breezy).
Thando is currently in his third year studying Bcom Economics at the University of Pretoria. As a creative he is inspired by experiences shared with family and friends to curate relatable content with his crew that he hopes will provide a good laugh.
Olebogeng is also in her third year at the University of the Free State studying an LLB Law and describes herself as resilient and adventurous. Her aim is to create inclusive content together with her fellow residents.
Talia is a social media community manager intern at an advertising agency and prides herself on being her authentic and unique self in all her content. For Talia, content creation has helped spark a passion that has unleashed her bold personality.
“A huge congratulations to our three KFC Social Heat Makers for being bold, creative and adventurous with your entries – which is exactly what our Zinger sub-brand aims to inspire,” says Senior Marketing Manager Hloni Mohope: “We were blown away by the passion, and level of effort put into all the entries from around South Africa. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to see your work. We knew SA had an abundance of untapped creative talent and wanted the chance to provide a platform to kick start opportunities for young creatives. We are excited to collaborate with our three winners, to showcase their creativity, social skills and hope this will be the start of a successful career as a content creator or creative.”
Each of KFC’s new Social Heat Makers will receive a mentorship in content creation from Mnguni to share his industry knowledge and skills, a paid contract with KFC to create social content for upcoming campaigns to celebrate the brand’s 50th Birthday anniversary in Mzansi, as well as social content creation starter kits – all worth over R50 000.
So keep an eye out on KFC’s and their new Social Heat Makers’ platforms for the collaborative creative work to follow.
