NORTHERN CAPE – A 40-year-old Immigration Officer has been served with the court summons to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate Court for alleged corruption and assault.
It is alleged that in August 2019, the complainant was arrested by the immigration officer on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant and had his asylum papers confiscated by the official.
The complainant was held at the Galeshewe police cells whilst Home Affairs officials were verifying the validity of the documents.
It is alleged the immigration officer demanded a R5 000-00 gratification from the victim in order to return his documentation
