Yesterday, the Port Shepstone Regional Court sentenced Bret Allen Steven (46) to 10 years imprisonment for possession of child pornography. The accused was arrested on 30 March 2019 by detectives from the Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit specialising in Serial and Electronic Crimes Investigation.
Steven was arrested in Betania after he was found with 467 images of child pornography on his tablet and cellphone. He was taken to the Port Shepstone police station for detention and his devices were confiscated. He appeared in court where he was convicted and sentenced. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with five years suspended. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be included in the National Register for Sex Offenders.
