The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has commended the exceptional work done by a team that she established herself in an effort to tackle new trends of serious crime which threatens the safety and security of the community of Mpumalanga. The team did not disappoint but they worked tirelessly and made some notable achievements.
Recently, breakthroughs were made on several cases, to mention but few. In May 2022 after the gruesome discovery of Ms Hillary Gardee’s body in the bushes, outside Nelspruit, the team was tasked with the responsibility to trace the suspects thereof. Few days later, the goal was achieved whereby three suspects, Philemon Lukhele (47), Sipho Lawrence Mkhatshwa (39), and Albert Mduduzi Gama (52) were arrested and charged. Their next court date is 07 July 2022.
On 13 June 2022 the team conducted an operation which led them to the arrest of two suspects, Carlos Mondlane (32) and Sylvester Nyathi (30) in connection with burglary business cases at the SAPS Provincial Office in Nelspruit. The arrest of the suspects is regarded as a success whereby suspects were linked to several cases at the police headquarters. One of the incidents occurred in July 2014 whilst another in May 2016 and the third one was carried out at the headquarters in June 2021.
The team further reacted to an incident in which a group of suspects stormed into a Toyota (NTT) dealership on 27 June 2022 in Delmas and stole several vehicles. Their freedom was short-lived as they were cornered by members of the team and arrested by members of the said team at Cleveland (in Gauteng Province) thereby recovering a Toyota single cab bakkie as well as a Toyota double cab bakkie with the arrest of the three suspects, Alassane Kani (29) and David Mushazazose (28), as well as Collen Nawana (61). They are currently in custody and are due in court on 28 July 2022.
