Black tax is something that has haunted the youth of South Africa once they start working. People always had the thought that once they get a job they have to contribute something to the family and give something to thank the family. Linda Mtoba spoke her mind on what she thought about black tax and responsibilities of the black youth.
The ‘The River’ actress says that most of the young black people don’t have the luxury of living a life that they can afford for themselves because of responsibilities. “Even if we can afford a life for ourselves alone, most black young [people] don’t have the luxury of actually living it due to responsibilities,” says Linda Mtoba. She went on to say even though a person would have enough money to go on a vacation, reality comes to light.
“[People] work hard enough to “afford’ a trip overseas, but reality is that money could be used elsewhere and is matter of fact is need elsewehere.” She states that she doesn’t know of any black youth that can backpack at an overseas country because they have to provide for the family. “I don’t know many black young [people] who can ‘afford’ to even backpack through Europe cause family needs one to work. ‘Doing you’ is a luxury that not many afford,” says Linda Mtoba. She ended the Twitter thread by saying that she believes that there’s a difference between black tax and responsibilities. “I believe there’s a strong difference between black tax & responsibilities.”
