A man from Durban in KwaZulu-Natal was charged with falsification after he allegedly stated that his car was robbed at gunpoint. The car was actually impounded when the driver was apprehended for drunk driving. The man allegedly stated that the robbery happened at the Durban Central, according to Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the police spokesperson.
A deep examination by detectives showed that the man was not robbed, it was discovered that his car was parked at the Berea police station. The 24-year-old, who was allegedly under alcohol influence, was taken in by police officials. The man was allegedly apprehended for intoxication. “The vehicle was kept at the police station after the driver was arrested for being intoxicated. A case of perjury was then opened and the suspect arrested. He is appearing at the Durban magistrate’s court today,” says Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner.
The provincial commissioner says those who lay false cases cannot be tolerated, thus they will be dealt with raspingly. The Lieutenant-General says state material is being wasted on the cases that are not true. The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner says, “All those who still continue to open false cases will be prosecuted.”
