Police issue a warning to stokvel members and business owners against carrying large sums of cash. This comes after a man was shot after he tried to stop a bag snatching incident in Uitenhage today.
Monday, 3 December 2018 around 10am, a 28-year-old woman alleged that she was walking at Rich Street, Uitenhage, when an unknown man snatched her bag and ran away. A pass-by who witnessed the incident gave chase and tried to overpower the suspect. It is believed that a second suspect armed with a firearm accosted the two while they were tussling over a bag. An armed suspect shot and wounded a 32-year-old man.
The two suspects ran away with a bag carrying large sums of cash. An injured victim was taken to hospital. Police are investigating a case of robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted murder.
At this stage, it is believed that four suspects were involved, and are still at large. Police are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stop 08600 10111.
