Two paramedics from ER24 were in a rough patch when a patient fired at them and their emergency vehicle at Glenwood in Durban. The incident happened on Thursday, with the paramedics coming out of the scene with no injuries. The emergency response paramedics came to the scene after they were called for a case of a 43-year-old man who had a knife in his stomach.
When they got to the place, a lady opened the gate for them to get in the premises. The woman and the daughter guided them to the kitchen where they discovered the man with a big knife in his stomach. The paramedics state that the man tugged the knife from his stomach. He then began to intimidate the paramedics. The paramedics called for backup. Later on, the man brought out a paintball marker and shooting ammunition at the emergency responders and their emergency vehicle.
Several rounds of the paintball marker wrecked the windows on the side of the ambulance. The paramedics protected themselves with behind of the emergency vehicle, luckily, thus they were not touched by any of the shots. More response units and police officials got to the area. The man was then calm. He did not want to be treated by the paramedics, he just wanted to be taken to the hospital. He was taken to the hospital by another ER24 response unit while being followed by police. The paintball gun was taken by police officials at the scene of the event. A case will be opened against the man at Umbilo police station.
