Matric Learner Commits Suicide Because She lost Her Cell Phone. It was announced on Tuesday that two matric learners had committed suicide.
It was announced on Tuesday that two matric learners had committed suicide. One was from Phahama Secondary and the other one was from Hoerskool Bekker. It was stated on a statement by Panyaza Lesufi that the student from Phahama Secondary allegedly committed suicide on Thursday because she lost a new cell phone.
“The first incident happened on Thursday, 14 November 2019 where it is alleged that a 17-year-old Grade 12 girl learner from Phahama Secondary School committed suicide by hanging herself at home. It is alleged that the deceased lost her new cell phone and was too scared to tell her parents, hence she decided to take her own life,” reads the Gauteng MECs statement. The other student, from Hoerskool Bekker killied himself on Sunday.
The learner left a note that would be used by police officials for further examination. The statement reads, “…the second incident occurred on Sunday 17 November 2019, whereby a 19-year-old Grade 12 Hoerskool Bekker boy- learner allegedly shot himself at home, with his father’s firearm. The deceased left a note which will form part of the Police investigation.” It is also stated that a Psycho-Social unit was sent to each school to give support to the people that were impacted by the incidents.
