Members attached to Ngqamakhwe SAPS were on duty enhancing visibility yesterday at Mntla location, Ngcwazi A/A.
While they were patrolling the area they received information that there is a house that has an unlicensed firearm. They swiftly responded and went to the mentioned homestead. On arrival they asked for permission to search the homestead and it was granted. Upon searching they found a 9mm Pietro Beretta hidden under the old corrugated irons. A 67-year-old female was arrested for possession of a firearm and one live ammunition after she failed to produce a licence. She is due to appear at Ngqamakhwe Magistrate Court on Monday 26 July 2021.
The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu appreciated the working relationship between the Police and the community that led to the confiscation of a firearm, at least one firearm is off the village streets and criminal activities are prevented.
