Men for Change spent their time to visit the other side of Makhanda, as they visited initiation schools to look at different aspects relating to safety of initiates.
According to the Provincial Chairperson of Men for Change in the Eastern Cape, Colonel Sivuyile Nqaphi, the visit aimed at monitoring compliance with different legislations, inclusive of Customary Initiation Act 2 of 2021,that intends to provide for the effective regulation of customary initiation practices. He further emphasised significance of collective work by different role-players in ensuring well-being of the initiates. “We thought of visiting these sites to ensure compliance with different legislations related to circumcision. Looking at the situation at initiation schools, we saw a dire need for collective work by different role-players in ensuring well-being of the initiates, as we value their lives”- he said.
