A 39-year-old man, Samuel Malele appeared at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court yesterday for murder.
It is alleged that on Monday morning, the suspect called the victim, his grandmother, into the house at which they were both occupants. Moments later the victim’s son, (his uncle) heard strange noises coming from the house and rushed in to investigate. Upon arrival, he (victim’s son) allegedly found the suspect hacking the victim with a shovel, and threatened to kill him if he intervened.
The son then went out calling for assistance and upon returning, found the lifeless body of the woman outside the house. The police were alerted and they swiftly arrested the suspect at the scene. It is reported that the suspect murdered the victim after accusing her of practicing witchcraft against him.
During his court appearance, the suspect was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear at the same court on Friday, 20 September 2019 for a formal bail application.
