Clement Karabelo Matlaletsa (27), Elma Manjati (30), and Tshieliso Raymond Matlaletsa (38), have appeared at the Parys Magistrate’s Court on Friday after they were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigating unit for alleged corruption.
It is alleged that Matlaletsa and Manjati employees at Ngwathe Local Municipality with the assistance of the unemployed Tshieliso Matlaletsa, contacted a local house owner whose municipal account was owing a sizable amount and solicited a bribe in order to write off the debt. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Hawks caught the suspects red handed during a sting operation.
Manjati has been granted a R500 bail whilst the two Matlaletsa brothers were each granted R1500 bail. The case against the trio has been postponed to 30 January 2019 pending further investigation.
