Mzansi Is Crazy Over The New SABC 2 Xitsonga Drama. The show is about two families that hate each other because of a history of fighting over a banana farm.

Mzansi has recently received its first ever Xitsonga show with SABC 2’s Giyani-Land of Blood. The show is filmed in Limpopo. The show is about two families that hate each other because of a history of fighting over a banana farm.

The first episode of the show, which premiered last night, started with a cheerful celebration of land being given back to the people of a village called Tiakeni. The return was given back as a victorious land expropriation claim. The farm that was named to represent the community, it was named Tiakeni.

The show is produced by the Tshedza Pictures producers, Phatutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon. The two producers are the ones that are responsible for the highly acclaimed 1Magic telenovela, The River. Makwarela was the one who came up with the concept of the show.

They sent the idea to the SABC around 2014 when the corporation was looking for telenovelas to be broadcasted on televisions. Makwarela says the fact that it is the first ever Xitsonga drama show allows the Tsonga people to have a voice in what seems like forever. Well, the Xitsonga show had fans glued to their screens. Tweeps were tweeting about it since it started.

Some tweeps loved the music, others already have their favourite characters and others are just happy that the Xitsonga culture is represented on television. One tweep says, “I was more than impressed tonight.” Another fan says, “I am at peace that I no longer have to read subtitles heyy”
