Newcastle businessman and a former school principal shot dead in broad daylight

Yesterday, shortly after 5pm, two men were shot and killed in the CBD in Newcastle.

A businessman, 63-year-old Mr Buthanani Golden Shange and his friend, a former school principal, 47-year-old Mr Martin Nkosenhle Sithole were standing in front of Mr Shange’s shop when they were shot at by unknown gunmen.

Both Mr Shange and Mr Sithole were killed while three bystanders were wounded. The wounded are in hospital receiving medical attention.

Two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder are being investigated. While the motive of the attack is not conclusive at this stage, it has been decided that the task team investigating political killings take over this investigation.
