As part of tightening the grip against criminality, police in the province arrested 505 suspects between Wednesday, 25 and Monday, 30 November 2020 for different crimes through suspect raiding and Safer Festive Season Operations.
The operations which were conducted at all districts, among others, resulted in the arrest of 115 suspects for all assaults, 38 for theft, 21 for malicious damage to property, 20 for burglary residential and business, 12 for contravention of protection order and 22 for robbery aggravating. The suspects include 35 that were apprehended by specialised units such as Stock theft, Vehicle Crime Investigation and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS).
Furthermore, 110 fines were issued for liquor related crimes which included 86 for drinking in public and 24 for illegal dealing in liquor. In addition, 97 fines were issued for road traffic offences.
The operations also led to the recovery and seizure of two stolen vehicles and variety of drugs such as khat, dagga and tik.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena reiterated that the police and other role players will continue to tighten the grip against criminals in a bid to ensure that members of the community are and feel safe during the festive season and beyond.
