NORTHERN CAPE – On 03 November 2020, a group of artisanal miners demanded entry at a local mine in Kimberley. In the process the group destroyed the fence of the mine and pelted Police with stones when they tried to disperse them. About 56 of them were arrested for public violence and malicious damage to property.
During the night of the same date the group barricaded the R64 road to Boshoff in Kimberley with stones. They allegedly demand answers to the memorandum they previously submitted to the Premier’s Office.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before Kimberley Magistrates Court today, 05 November 2020.
The road is still closed and motorists are warned to use alternative roads. The Public Order Police is at scene monitoring the situation.
