Our efforts towards the fight against drug peddling continue to yield positive results. Police in Orkney arrested on Thursday, 12 November 2020, four suspects aged between 18 and 34 for allegedly dealing in drugs.
The suspects were arrested at about 15:30 by members of the Illicit Mining Group, consisting of the National Intervention Unit and Crime Combating Unit. A random stop and search was conducted near Lourenspark Road in Orkney in which a vehicle, a Renault Megane, was stopped. Upon searching the vehicle, the members discovered numerous bags containing tablets, suspected to be Mandrax and an extensive amount of money. The drugs are estimated to a street value of R190 000.00.
The suspects were immediately arrested and their vehicle confiscated. They are expected to appear before the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 November 2020.
