Northern Cape man arrested for suspected human trafficking

A 33 year old suspect is expected to appear at the Prieska Magistrate’s Court today, 20 April 2020 for allegedly trafficking a female victim from Gauteng to the Northern Cape.

It is alleged that during March 2020, the suspect recruited the 22 year old victim under the false pretence that she is going to get a job in Prieska. On arrival she was allegedly locked up at a house, raped and was continually assaulted by the perpetrator.

On Saturday the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation conducted an operation and rescued the victim who is currently being kept at a place of safety. The suspect was also detained and has been charged for contravening the Trafficking in Persons Act. Investigations are still ongoing.
