A weird incident happened on one Mango airplane, a panel fell off the airplane. The airplane was a Boeing 737 going from Cape Town to Johannesburg. The event occurred at the end of January, with the flight path moving over Stellenbosch.
The airline says the incident didn’t have a safety risk for the airplane. Sergio dos Santos, the Mango spokesperson, acknowledged to Traveller 24 that a panel did fall off one of their airplanes. The Mango spokesperson says, “We can assure you that the loss of this panel fairing did not pose a safety risk to the flight. We are in the process of investigating the occurrence and apart from submitting the initial report to the Civil Aviation Authority we will be sharing all subsequent evidence and findings with them once the investigation is finalised.”
A report about the instance states that the panel part that fell was picked up in Kayamandi, by a community member. The man allegedly sold the panel part back to Mango. The spokesperson says they did not pay for the bringing back of the part that fell off the plane.
