Doctor Patrice Motsepe says there are discussions between banks and the Motspe Foundation to start a multi-billion rand fund that concentrates on agriculture and other linked fields. The fund will specifically be funding black farmers and would also give them special access to loans. The billionaire says that the involvement of black people in farming is significant.
“The farming industry is at a very critical stage. The involvement and participation of black people is important. There is a huge sense of urgency to make sure we have sustainable black farmers in the industry,” says Patrice Motsepe. The mine magnate has stated his inclusion in a fund that is set to begin, whereby banks, farming businesses and other field people in agriculture are linking to give black farmers opportunities and funds.
He states that meetings have already started with the people involved to start the fund, he also acknowledged AFASA’s involvement. He states that an economy and future cannot be constructed if “there’s an insignificant participation in ownership, access and involvement from black farmers.” He adds that everybody should work together. Doctor Patrice Motsepe also let people know that South Africa needs to make sure that black farmers have good access to funds. “We have to include the biggest barrier, which is access to funding. We want to see successful black farmers and people part of the whole value chain,” says the billionaire.
