It was the weirdest thing when staff members from Kenya Airways’ Boeing B787-8 found out that they had a maintenance engineer on the plane. It was reported that the Boeing 787-8 just took flight on Tuesday when they were told that an engineer was supposed to have been left in Johannesburg. So this resulted in the airplane going back to the OR Tambo International Airport.
The man was acknowledged to have been on the airplane; however, the exact location on the plane was unknown. It was stated that he was ok. The plane was set back by approximately an hour after the instance. Vincent Lessing, an aviation specialist, says, “Once the aircraft is being loaded and all the ground activities have taken place the engineers ensure the release of the aircraft, after performing mandatory checks that include pre- and post flight inspection.”
The man says that a lot of actions occur that ensure that the airplane is ready for its take off time. “As an example, if technical item requires an engineer’s attention, it will be attended to whilst all other activities continue,” says Vincent Lessing. It is thus said that proper checks needed to be done before the call to close the doors was done. The aviation specialist says there could have been a rush or a loss of the awareness of the situation.
