A 42-year-old woman was arrested in Spruitview, Ekurhuleni, on Friday 22 March 2019, after she was found with suspected stolen properties that worth thousands of rand. The items include televisions, microwaves, laptops, washing machines, Honda motorbike and other appliances. These goods are suspected to have been stolen during house robberies and breakings. Police stopped the suspect who was driving a Mitsubishi Pajero coming from Angelo Informal Settlement in Boksburg and upon searching the car, stolen properties were recovered. She was taken to her place of residence in Spruitview where more suspected stolen appliances were recovered. An investigation is underway to establish whether or not she could be linked to other cases of house robberies, especially where women were the suspects.
Still in Ekurhuleni, a murder and attempted murder suspect was fatally wounded during a shootout with the police. Police received information about a man who was wanted for a string of murders in Ekurhuleni. The suspect was spotted in Emalahleni Informal Settlement in Tembisa, as he was arrested, he pulled out a firearm and shot at the police. A shootout ensued and the suspect was fatally wounded. Ammunition and unlicensed firearm used by the suspect was recovered.
In Soweto, police arrested two men who are suspected to be behind the robberies of bread delivery trucks. Police were following up on information of suspects that are behind the spate of robberies of bread delivery trucks in Soweto. Police kept observation and followed one truck in Doornkop where suspects accosted a truck. Upon seeing the police, suspects started shooting and police returned fire injuring a 19-year-old suspect and arresting a 22-year-old. The hunt for other suspects and firearms used is continuing.
Furthermore, intelligence-driven operations were conducted in different areas in Gauteng and resulted in the arrest of more than one 1200 suspects for various crimes. Suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, rape, house robbery, car hijacking, possession of drugs, assault, fraud, armed robbery and driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The arrested suspects will appear in Magistrate Courts in due course.
