PARKTOWN – Police in Mamelodi have arrested a gang of seven men suspected to be behind armed robberies of foreigners’ owned shops and two unlicensed firearms with ammunition were seized today after 12:00 in Stoffel Park. The suspects are still being profiled to determine the state of their involvement in serious and violent crimes and at this stage, they will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms when they appear at the local Magistrate’s Court.
An operation which lead to their arrest was carried out by members of the Crime Intelligence and the Gauteng Flying Squad. The suspects’ modus operandi was to target the shops during night time. Six of these suspects are from Kwa-Thema in Ekurhuleni and one is a local resident of Mamelodi. As police are continuing with investigations, identification parades will be conducted to link them to several cases that are under investigation.
