WESTERN CAPE – Efforts by the police to eradicate drug trafficking through strategic deployment along entry points into the Western Cape Province yielded positive results when drugs with an estimated street value of R1.8 million were confiscated along the N1 near Laingsburg in the early hours this morning, 03 August 2020.
Vigilant members attached to the Laingsburg police conducted random searches during a vehicle check point when they stopped a taxi with eight (8) occupant at about 02:05 whilst they were travelling towards Cape Town from the Eastern Cape. Upon searching the trailer of the vehicle they found that the trailer was fully stashed with dagga that was concealed in plastic bags, weighing about 900kg with an estimated value of about R1.8million. The police members confiscated the drugs and arrested the driver as well as his co-driver on charges of Dealing in Drugs.
