SAPS detectives are out on an intensive search for unidentified gun-wielding killers of three people on Thursday evening 05 August 2021 at Ekuphumleni Location in Engcobo.
Preliminary investigation revealed that two unidentified suspects stormed into a residence at Ekuphumleni location and started showering a hail of bullets on unsuspecting members of the family. During the shooting, three family members aged between 22 and 27 including a neighbour who is alleged to have been sitting outside in the neighbourhood were fatally wounded.
Another two family members and a 3-year-old boy were rushed to a nearby hospital for serious injuries sustained during the shooting. They are alleged to be in a critical condition.
The motive for the shooting is currently not known. However, the police have opened three cases of murder and three of attempted murder for investigation. No arrest has been made at this stage. The investigation continues.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has expressed shock at the killings and immediately ordered a 72 hour activation plan to mobilise all resources for effective investigations and speedy arrest of those responsible for the murder incident.
“I need investigators of this case to trace, track and find the culprits without delays. A culture of killing other human beings cannot be tolerated. Those responsible must be made to face justice so that they will account for their deadly actions.” said Lieutenant General Ntshinga.
