Early this morning, police conducted a raid in Hillbrow and other areas of the Cluster and recovered counterfeit goods that worth R5.6 million. Police also recovered two unlicensed firearms, ammunitions and arrested of hundred suspects for serious and violent crimes. These recoveries will effectively solve several crimes in this Province.
The raid was part of the continuing operation “Buya Mthetho” involving all law enforcement agencies in Gauteng to deal with violent crimes, traffic violations and municipal by-laws. More than 200 police members were part of the operation which raided the hotspot, shebeen and conducted road blocks.
During the Operation the following arrests were effected:
·Forty were undocumented immigrant
·Seven suspects for possession of drugs
·Twenty two suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol, and
·Two suspects for possession counterfeit goods Act
During the raid at hotspots, two firearms, thirty four (34) rounds of ammunition, dangerous weapons and 25 litre buckets of dagga were seized. Hundred suspects were arrested for serious and violent crimes that includes business robbery, possession of suspected stolen vehicles and possession of a stolen property.
The arrested suspects are due to appear at Magistrate’s Court in Hillbrow
