POLOKWANE – The Police in Limpopo continue to create a safe environment to the citizens of this province, following the arrest of more than two thousand one hundred and fifty nine (2159) suspects aged between 19 and 46 for various offences during joint operations that were conducted in the Districts. These operations were activated since the beginning of the week until Sunday, 11 October 2020.
The suspects were apprehended for various crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, robberies, possession of illicit cigarettes, illegal immigration, possession of drugs (nyaope), dagga, rape, sexual assault, assault GBH, burglary residential and business, stock theft, malicious damage to properties, shoplifting, theft, drug related crime, driving under the influence of alcohol, Public drinking, Violation of protection order, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, illegal trading in liquor to carrying of dangerous weapons.
During some of the operations, Police arrested a 44-year-old woman, on 07 October 2020 at about 00:30 at Saselamani policing area following a tip-off about a stolen motor vehicle. The Car tracking company supplied the location of the vehicle which was at Mhinga Zone 02, the information was followed and two (02) stolen vehicles were recovered as VW Polo with a plastic bag of dagga linked to Letsitele case and Ford Fige linked to Eldorado Park.
In another incident in Mokopane policing area, members of Limpopo Highway Patrol and Mokopane SAPS arrested suspects aged 37 and 48 separately for attempted murder and theft out of the motor vehicle during operations conducted from 10 October until 11 October 2020. The police received valuable information which led to the arrests. During these arrests two firearms were recovered.
The operations comprised members from various SAPS units including Limpopo Highway Patrol, Crime Intelligence Unit, Operational Respond Services (ORS), Tracking team and Crime Prevention members.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has welcomed the arrests and applauded the stunning job that the police in this province continuously perform to keep our citizens safe.
Some of the arrested suspects have already started appearing before the different magistrate courts across the province.
