POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the 20 year imprisonment without option of fine, handed down by the Thohoyandou Magistrate Court, to a murder accused, Edzisani Gilbert Ndou aged 46 after brutally murdering an elderly man.
The sentencing follows an incident that took place on 21 January 2018 at about 05:00, at Muswodi village, Dipeni in the Muswodi policing area outside Thohoyandou. The accused went to the deceased’s home, Mudumela George Radzivhoni aged 82 and on arrival, he accused him of stealing his cellphone the previous day during a drinking spree.
In the process, an argument ensued between the two and the accused picked up an axe and hacked the elderly man to death before he fled the scene
The case of murder was opened and the intensive investigations and manhunt ensued until Ndou was arrested. He was incarcerated until the finalisation of the case.
The matter then assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Naledzani Gumbu and he excellently gathered all the information which positively linked the accused with the murder and subsequently sentenced.
“We hope that the deceased’s family will find a closure on this matter knowing that the person responsible for this heinous crime will be behind bars for a long time. Any person who is still perpetrating this type of crimes across the Province, will never be left unpunished,” concluded General Ledwaba.
