PORT ELIZABETH – Mount Road Detective Trio Task Team arrested a 37-year-old alleged house robber in Gelvandale yesterday afternoon, 22 November 2020 and recovered the stolen property.

It is alleged that on Friday, 20 November 2020 at about 20:30, a couple was having a braai at their Garth Road home in Broadwood with another couple when they were confronted by two unknown males. Both males had firearms and threatened them. They were made to lay on the ground while the one suspect went into the house and brought the children outside. On Sunday, 22 November 2020, at about 13:00, Mount Road Detective Trio Task Team members followed up on information received of possible stolen goods at a house in Koedoe Street in Gelvandale. The house was searched and three cell phones, a notebook, an external hard drive, a wi-fi router and other computer equipment were confiscated.

A 37-year-old suspect was arrested at his house in Springbok Street in Gelvandale. Further investigation led the team to a tavern in Durban Road in Korsten where more suspected stolen goods were recovered. At this place, two laptops, two cell phones and two laptop chargers were seized. All the stolen property was positively identified by the complainant.

The arrested suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court tomorrow on a charge of house robbery.
