PORT ELIZABETH – A well known gang leader was arrested on Sunday evening, 01 November 2020 by PE Flying Squad members and detained on charges of prohibited possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
It is alleged that at about 22:55, members received and followed up information on a well known gang leader in possession of a firearm. Members arrived at the house in Young Park where there were many men in the house. On seeing the police, they all scattered and ran away however the main gang leader was arrested and a silver .22 revolver with 44 rounds of ammunition was seized. The suspect attempted to hide the firearm in a packet in his vehicle. The vehicle, a Jeep belonging to the suspect was also confiscated.
The firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis to determine if it was used in the commission of other crimes. The case is being investigated by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (Gang Investigation).
The 25-year-old suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court today, 03 November 2020.
