A man from Limpopo who is accused for the killing of Capricorn TVET College learner Precious Ramabulana says he is planning on pleading not guilty to the charges that have been set against him. The 21-year-old student was discovered in her room in November 2019. She was sexually assaulted and had several knife injuries.
The student thus passed away due to the knife injuries. The 28-year-old Aubrey Manaka, suspected of the killing of the student, was at the Morobeng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. His legal representatives let it be known that he planned on pleading not guilty. The representatives did not give a reason why their client decided to plead not guilty. The suspect was apprehended at Nyakelang Village at his parent’s home, he had the 21-year-old’s cellphone on him. He also had clothes that were filled with blood and a something sharp in his possession. The National Prosecuting Authority says Manaka was looking at five counts against him.
He is looking at two charges for sexual assault, for allegedly sexually assaulting the student and a four-year-old child in 2014, he is also looking at murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and housebreaking with intent to sexually assault. “During the last court proceedings, the defence was preparing a plea…he was supposed to plead guilty but yesterday the defence informed the court of the change but argued they won’t be able to state the reasons…,” says the National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi. The matter was moved to the 30th of March, giving the director of the public prosecution to make a choice. The spokesperson says after the choice the case will be taken to the Limpopo high court.
