RnB musician R. Kelly was apprehended on Thursday based on charges of sex trafficking. This occurs five months after he was bailed out for charges based on sexual assault that were brought by prosecutors in Illinois in the United States of America. Authorities say the singer was apprehended by Homeland Security Investigations officers and the New York City Police Department when he was in Chicago.
According to Federal Prisons Bureau website, the 52-year-old musician was in holding at Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. It is reported that there are two federal summons against the singer filed in Chicago and Brooklyn. His court appearance would be announced on Friday. He will be sent to New York so that he could be present for the charges against him.
A summon of 13-counts was sent to the federal court in Illinois. The summon includes charges of child pornography, obstruction of justice and the luring of minors. The extra charges against the RnB musician will be revealed by the Eastern District of New York. The 52-year-old’s crisis manager says they were expecting the summon but they didn’t know what the singer was charged for. According to the crisis manager, the singer is in high hopes while he waits for his trial date.
Johnson says, “Mr. Kelly has declared his innocence from day one. I’ve seen nothing, and I do mean nothing, that would lead to any type of guilt.” R. Kelly has been in the news for some time based on sexual assault charges against him. In February, the singer was charged for sexual assault that involved four ladies, three of the ladies have been said to be minors.
He pleaded not guilty, which led to him being released on bail. In 2008 he was accused of child pornography with a 13-year-old, he was charged with 15 years in prison but the supposed victim denied her appearance in the video, leading to her not testifying.
