The SAPS endeavours to prevent and detect stock theft yielded positive results after the swift reaction from the members of Rhodes that led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a sheep carcass.
On Wednensday, 01 September 2021 a farmer reported the theft of one of his sheep.
SAPS members D/Sgt Poni, Cst Phangwa and Cst Jiya from the Barkly East stock theft unit immediately attendant to the complaint and followed up all positive leads.
The members managed to locate the scene where the sheep was slaughtered during the preliminary investigation. On further investigation the suspect a 45-year-old suspect was arrested in possession of meat from the sheep.
The suspect will appear today, 02 September 2021 at the Barkly East magistrate court.
The possibility also exists that he might be linked to other previous cases.
The farmer expressed his appreciation to the SAPS for the swift reaction as the arrest was made within two hours after the complaint was reported.
The acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the members on the swift reaction and the recovery of the stolen meat.
