Robbery suspects arrested and stolen property recovered: Port Elizabeth

EASTERN CAPE – Three robbery suspects were arrested hours after allegedly robbing a teenager and her friend yesterday morning in Sherwood.

It is alleged that on Thursday, 24 September 2020 at about 11:00, the 18-year-old complainant and a friend were sitting at the corners of Gonubie and Caledon Streets when they were approached by three unknown males. Two produced knives and robbed them of their cell phones.

At about 14: 15, while SAPS Kabega Park Crime Prevention members were patrolling near the Kuyga informal settlement, they were flagged down by a person who informed them that he knew of two males in possession of stolen cell phones at a house in the settlement. Police proceeded to the house where three males were found in the yard. The stolen cell phones were found on a 28-year-old suspect.

The three males were arrested as well as the person who informed the police about the suspected stolen phones. He was positively identified as one of the robbers. The 28-year-old suspect was detained on a charge of suspected stolen property while the other three aged 24, 27 and 28-year-old were detained for robbery. All four suspects will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday, 28 September 2020.
