SAPS Rietgat issued a warning to prospective buyers responding to online advertisements to always be vigilant.
This warning follows after a few cases of fraud and theft with a similar modus operandi have been opened at SAPS Rietgat. In these cases the prospective buyers responded to an online advertisement of a Toyota Quantum being for sale. Most of these buyers agreed to meet the “seller” near a tavern in Soshanguve. After the prospective buyers transferred the money into the “seller’s” account, the suspect would then allegedly borrow the buyer’s phone to make a call and minutes later leave with the buyer’s phone. The buyers are then left stranded without a vehicle and cellphone.
Anyone that has information on crime being committed in their area is urged to contact their nearest police station, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or alternatively leave an anonymous tip-off on the MySAPS App.
