Concerted efforts to rid certain identified crime hotspots of firearms that generate other serious violent crimes in the Western Cape, are yielding much-needed results with the seizure of 20 firearms, ammunition and the arrest of 34 suspects in the week.
Following an armed robbery at a butchery by four suspects in Eerste River on Tuesday evening (02 June 2020), suspects were pursued by Kleinvlei crime prevention unit members. Not far from the butchery, a 26-year-old suspect was arrested with one firearm while a second firearm was found abandoned outside the vehicle. The police are still following information about the other suspects involved in the armed robbery. The arrested suspect appeared in court and bail was opposed. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
